The Madras Palayakat Company is a renowned name in the Handloom speciality of Kailies and Handkerchiefs in Tamilnadu. Even to-day it is one of the very few famous business houses engaged in the production of these specialities. Madras Palayakat, takes its name from the village Pazhaverkadu which is about 50 Kilo metres north of Madras. The chief production centre is the Chengleput District, particularly Kancheepuram, Gummudipoondi etc., and therefore the founders thought fit to associate Pazhaverkadu with the name of our business • house and christened it as " Madras Palayakat ". " Madras Palayakat Company" which was started 50 years ago on the 7th July 1925 was a small firm organised by the inspiring leader T. N. Sabapathy Mudaliar. The first set of partners of the firm " Madras Palayakat Company " were the following.

These 6 pioneers like the six faced Lord Muruga were united together under the banner of "The Madras Palayakat Company" and all of them hailed from the illustrious Sengunthar Community of Thanjavur District. The main object of the organisation of the firm " The Madras Palyakat Company " was to consolidate all the exports which had been made to Ceylon by the individual weavers of Thanjavur and to co-ordinate all the activities of the weaving of Kailies and Handkerchiefs from the loom stage to the export sales point stage under one single, efficient and unified auspices.
